2.1
- PRODUCT
The product shall be CSI Operable Partitionsä
, manufactured by CSI Manufacturing.
2.2 – OPERATION
The operation shall be AS SHOWN ON THE
ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS AND DETAILS.
The operation shall be Type "P",
a series of manually operated, top supported, center stacked, paired
panels.
The operation shall be Type "S",
a series of manually operated, top supported, side stacked, or remote
stacked, single panels.
The operation Type "E", a series
of electrically operated, top supported, center stacked, continuously
hinged panels.
The operation shall be Type "G",
a series of electrically operated, top supported, center stacked,
continuously hinged Gymnasium Divider panels.
The operation shall be Type "ST",
a series of manually operated, top supported, side stacked, single
panels that rest on the floor except when being relocated. The overhead
track shall support only 1 panel at any time.
"CAUTION": No floor track shall be
required, or, permitted.
2.3 - PANEL CONSTRUCTION
The panel construction shall be Type"A",
80 mm (3.15") thick, full height, one-piece construction, and of
uniform equal widths not exceeding the width of the specified panel
finish.
The structural steel tube sub-frame, and solid steel
trolley attachments, shall be a completely welded self-supporting, rigid
assembly.
The panel face shall be puncture & dent proof HD or
MDF board, bonded to the frame to form a rigid unit.
"CAUTION": unequal panel widths, spliced panels, field
joints, gyproc faces, or panels that twist or flex will not be accepted.
The panel construction shall be Type"B",
80 mm (3.15") thick, full height, one-piece construction, and of
uniform equal widths not exceeding the width of the specified panel
finish.
The structural steel tube frame, and solid steel trolley
attachments, shall be a completely welded self-supporting, rigid
assembly.
The panel face shall be puncture & dent proof HD or
MDF board, and shall be bolted to the steel tube frame at not more than

non-welded trolley mounts, glued-on gyproc faces, or panels that twist
or flex will not be accepted.
The panel construction shall be Type"D",
80 mm (3.15") thick, full height, one-piece construction, and of
uniform equal widths not exceeding 48" (1220), or the width of the
specified panel finish.
The structural steel tube frame, and solid steel trolley
attachments, shall be a completely welded self-supporting, rigid
assembly.
The panel backing shall be puncture & dent proof HD
or MDF board, and shall be bolted to the steel tube frame at not more
than 12" (300) c/c.
The panel face shall be 21 - 26 gage, satin-coated or
galvanized, stretcher leveled, sheet steel.
"CAUTION": unequal panel widths, spliced panels, field
joints, bent metal or aluminum frames, bolted frame construction,
non-welded trolley mounts, glued-on gyproc faces, or panels that twist
or flex will not be accepted.
2.4 - FINISHES
The panel finish shall be Type "P",
factory applied paint to the Architect or Owner's specifications.
The panel finish shall be protected on all edges by wrap
around, solid color, un-breakable PVC trim.
"CAUTION": plastic or metal trim with a surface coating only,
or trim-less panels will not be accepted.
The panel finish shall be Type "V",
factory applied, heavy duty, reinforced, woven back, class "A"
rated vinyl, selected from the standard CSI Manufacturing selector card.
The panel finish shall be protected on all edges by wrap
around, solid color, un-breakable PVC trim.
"CAUTION": plastic or metal trim with a surface coating only,
or trim-less panels will not be accepted.
The panel finish shall be Type "C",
factory applied, acoustical, non woven, fused fiber, class "A"
rated carpet, selected from the standard CSI Manufacturing carpet selector card.
The panel finish shall be protected on all edges by wrap
around, solid color, un-breakable PVC trim.
"CAUTION": plastic or metal trim with a surface coating only,
or trim-less panels will not be accepted.
The panel finish shall be Type "F",
factory applied, teflon coated, acrylic backed, class "A"
rated, polyolefin wall covering and upholstery fabric, selected from the
standard CSI Manufacturing Operable Partition fabric selector card.
The panel finish shall be protected on all edges by wrap
around, solid color, un-breakable PVC trim.
"CAUTION": plastic or metal trim with a surface coating only,
or trim-less panels will not be accepted.
The panel finish shall be Type "M",
factory applied, high pressure laminated, class "A" rated,
melamine board, selected from the standard CSI Manufacturing melamine selector
card.
The panel finish shall be protected on all edges by wrap
around, solid color, un-breakable PVC trim.
"CAUTION": plastic or metal trim with a surface coating only,
or trim-less panels will not be accepted.
The panel finish shall be Type "L",
factory applied, high pressure, heavy duty, class "A" rated,
plastic laminate, selected from the standard CSI Manufacturing laminate selector
card.
The panel finish shall be protected on all edges by wrap
around, solid color, un-breakable PVC trim.
"CAUTION": plastic or metal trim with a surface coating only,
or trim-less panels will not be accepted.
The panel finish shall be Type "W",
factory applied, natural wood veneer, selected from the manufacturer's
selector cards, or as specified by the Architect or Owner.
The panel finish shall be protected on all edges by wrap
around, solid color, un-breakable PVC trim.
"CAUTION": plastic or metal trim with a surface coating only,
or trim-less panels will not be accepted.
The panel finish shall be Type "O",
the owner’s own materials (subject to approval by the manufacturer),
installed at the factory.
The panel finish shall be protected on all edges by wrap
around, solid color, un-breakable PVC trim.
"CAUTION": plastic or metal trim with a surface coating only,
or trim-less panels will not be accepted.
The panel finish shall be Type "S",
special finish detailed as follows; _____________, installed at the
factory.

2.5 - SOUND SEALS
The sound seals shall be Type"1".
The lead nose and expandable closure shall seal to the wall with an
extruded soft vinyl, compressible bulb seal.
The vertical seals between panels shall interlock a
minimum of 50mm (2") by means of unbreakable, scratch and dent
proof, solid color, self aligning, PVC tongue and groove extrusions.
The horizontal top seal shall be two continuous-contact,
multi-finger, 25mm (1") vinyl sweep seals.
The horizontal bottom seal shall be, two,
continuous-contact, multi-finger, 25mm (1") vinyl sweep seals.
"CAUTION": vertical wall jambs, swing closures, interlock of
less than 50mm (2") between panels, or bottom seals of less than 25
mm (1") will not be accepted.
The sound seals shall be Type"2".
The lead nose and expandable closure shall seal to the wall with an
extruded soft vinyl, compressible bulb seal.
The vertical seals between panels shall interlock a
minimum of 50 mm (2") by means of unbreakable, scratch and dent
proof, solid color, self aligning, PVC tongue and groove extrusions.
The horizontal top seal shall be two continuous contact,
multi-finger, 25 mm (1") vinyl sweep seals.
The horizontal bottom seal shall be, two, continuous-
contact, multi-finger, 60 mm (2.5") vinyl sweep seals.
"CAUTION": vertical wall jambs, swing closures, interlock of
less than 50mm (2") between panels, or bottom seals of less than 50
mm (2.5") will not be accepted.
The sound seals shall be Type"3".

minimum of 50 mm (2") by means of unbreakable, scratch and dent

The operable floor seal shall be a
mechanical-retractable bottom seal providing 30 mm (1.2") operating
clearance. Downward seal pressure shall provide maximum acoustical seal
and stabilize the bottom of the partition.
"CAUTION": vertical wall jambs, swing closures, interlock of
less than 50mm (2") between panels, sweep top seals, or bottom
seals allowing for less than 30 mm (1.2") of operating clearance
will not be accepted.
The sound seals shall be Type"6".
The lead nose and expandable closure shall seal to the wall with an
extruded soft vinyl, compressible bulb seal.
The vertical seals between panels shall interlock a
minimum of 50 mm (2") by means of unbreakable, scratch and dent
proof, solid color, self aligning, PVC tongue and groove extrusions.
The operable head seal shall be a mechanical-retractable
top seal providing 25 mm (1") operating clearance, and no
resistance to movement of the panel. Upward seal pressure shall provide
maximum acoustical seal and lock the panel in position when required.
The operable floor seal shall be a
mechanical-retractable bottom seal providing 60 mm (2.5") operating
clearance. Downward seal pressure shall provide maximum acoustical seal
and stabilize the bottom of the partition.
"CAUTION": vertical wall jambs, swing closures, interlock of
less than 50mm (2") between panels, sweep top seals, or bottom
seals allowing for less than 60 mm (2.5") of operating clearance
will not be accepted.

The lead nose and expandable closure shall seal to the wall with an
extruded soft vinyl, compressible bulb seal.
The vertical seals between panels shall interlock a
minimum of 50 mm (2") by means of unbreakable, scratch and dent
proof, solid color, self aligning, PVC tongue and groove extrusions.
The horizontal top seal shall be two continuous contact,
multi-finger, 25 mm (1") vinyl sweep seals.
The operable floor seal shall be a mechanical-floating
bottom seal to compensate for 60 mm (2.5") of support deflection or
out-of-level floor conditions.
"CAUTION": vertical wall jambs, swing closures, interlock of
less than 50mm (2") between panels, or bottom seals allowing for
less than 60 mm (2.5") of deflection will not be accepted.
2.6 - SUSPENSION SYSTEM
The suspension system shall be Type"S",
steel precision bearing, reinforced nylon tired, 4 wheeled steel
trolleys, running in heat treated, tempered, anodized aluminum track,
connected to the support structure with pairs of .375" adjustable
hanger rods spaced in accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommendations.
"CAUTION": mill finished aluminum track, non-precision
bearings, or steel tires will not be accepted.
The suspension system shall be Type "P",
all steel precision bearing, glass reinforced nylon tired, 4 wheeled
steel trolleys, running in heat treated, tempered, anodized aluminum
track, connected to the support structure with pairs of .375"
adjustable hanger rods spaced in accordance with the manufacturer's
recommendations.
"CAUTION": mill finished aluminum track, non-precision
bearings, or steel tires will not be accepted
The suspension system shall be Type "D",
teflon disc-type, omni-directional trolleys, running in heat treated,
tempered, anodized aluminum track, connected to the support structure
with pairs of .375" adjustable hanger rods spaced in accordance
with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
"CAUTION": mill finished aluminum track, or Teflon substitute
will not be accepted.
The suspension system shall be Type "R",
all steel precision bearing, glass reinforced, nylon tired,
Omni-directional trolleys, running in, heat treated, tempered, anodized
aluminum, Omni-directional track, connected to the support structure
with pairs of .375" adjustable hanger rods spaced in accordance
with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
"CAUTION": mill finished aluminum track, non-precision
bearings, or steel tires will not be accepted
The suspension system shall be Type "O",
dual rotor, all steel precision bearing, glass reinforced, nylon tired,
Omni-directional trolleys, running in, heat treated, tempered, anodized
aluminum, Omni-directional track, connected to the support structure
with pairs of .375" adjustable hanger rods spaced in accordance
with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
"CAUTION": mill finished aluminum track, non-precision
bearings, or steel tires will not be accepted
The suspension system shall be Type "H",
all steel precision bearing, steel tired, 4 wheel trolleys, running on a
Steel "I" Beam track c/w pre-painted steel soffit, connected
to the support structure with pairs of .5" adjustable hanger rods
and brackets spaced in accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommendations.
"CAUTION": aluminum track, non-precision bearings, or nylon
tires will not be accepted.
The suspension system shall be Type "G",
all steel precision bearing, steel tired, 4 wheeled trolleys, running on
a Steel "I" beam track complete w/prepainted steel soffit,
connected to the support structure with pairs of .5" adjustable
hanger rods and brackets spaced in accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommendations.
"CAUTION": aluminum track, non-precision bearings, or nylon
tires will not be accepted.
2.7 - ACOUSTICAL PERFORMANCE
The Acoustical Performance Rating shall be "L-49",
STC 49 as tested in an acoustical laboratory in accordance with ASTM E
90-90 413, and ISO 140/111 1978(E) with reporting to ASTM 413-94 and ISO
717
"CAUTION": non current sound tests (older than 1990), or
class ratings will not be accepted.
The Acoustical Performance Rating shall be "L-52",
STC 52 as tested in an acoustical laboratory in accordance with ASTM E
90-90 413, and ISO 140/111 1978(E) with reporting to ASTM 413-94 and ISO
717
"CAUTION": non current sound tests (older than 1990), or
class ratings will not be accepted.
The Acoustical Performance Rating shall be "L-54",
STC 54 as tested in an acoustical laboratory in accordance with ASTM E
90-90 413, and ISO 140/111 1978(E) with reporting to ASTM 413-94 and ISO
717

OPTIONS – POCKET DOORS
OPERABLE WALL POCKET DOORS Type "PO"
shown on the architectural drawings shall be manufactured by CSI
Manufacturing, and
supplied and installed under this section.
The finish of the pocket doors and frames shall be by
others, to match the finishes of the doors and frames specified for the
room.
The construction, trim, sound seals, and acoustical
performance shall be exactly as specified for the operable partition
panels, including sound seals, as specified for the partition panels.
"CAUTION": pocket doors of different construction, or without
sound seals will not be accepted.
OPERABLE WALL POCKET DOORS Type "PS"
shown on the architectural drawings shall be manufactured by CSI Manufacturing, and
supplied and installed under this section.
The construction, finish, trim, sound seals, and
acoustical performance shall be exactly as specified for the operable
partition panels, including sound seals, as specified for the partition
panels.
"CAUTION": pocket doors of different construction, or without
sound seals will not be accepted.
OPTIONS – PASS DOORS
OPERABLE WALL PASS-THROUGH DOORS shall be Type
"MH" shown on the architectural drawings shall be
manufactured by CSI Manufacturing, and be of the same construction and finish, and
same thickness as the panels. Each pass-through door shall be equipped
with a roller-latch, and push / pull hardware for unrestricted egress. A
retracting threshold is optional on manual partitions only.
OPERABLE WALL PASS-THROUGH DOORS shall be Type
"MA" shown on the architectural drawings shall be
manufactured by CSI Manufacturing, and be of the same construction and finish, and
same thickness as the panels. Each pass-through door shall be sized to "ADA"
requirements, and equipped with "ADA" compliant
hardware. A retracting threshold is optional on manual
partitions only.
OPTIONS – WORK SURFACES
WRITING SURFACES shall be Type "MB"
shown on the architectural drawings shall be manufactured as an integral
part of the operable partition panels, and shall be porcelain-enameled
steel, with all edges trimmed with matching molding, and no exposed
fasteners.
Optional flush-mounted chalk trays shall be installed
where indicated on the Architectural drawings.
"CAUTION": Surface applied writing surfaces will not be
accepted.
WRITING SURFACES shall be Type "CB"
shown on the architectural drawings shall be manufactured as an integral
part of the operable partition panels, and shall be porcelain-enameled
steel, with all edges trimmed with matching molding, and no exposed
fasteners.
Optional flush-mounted chalk trays shall be installed
where indicated on the Architectural drawings.
"CAUTION": Surface applied writing surfaces will not be
accepted.
TACK BOARDS shall be Type "TB"
shown on the architectural drawings shall be manufactured as an integral
part of the operable partition panels, and shall be natural cork, with
all edges trimmed with matching molding, and no exposed fasteners.
Optional flush-mounted chalk trays shall be installed
where indicated on the Architectural drawings.
"CAUTION": Surface applied writing surfaces will not be
accepted.
TACK BOARDS shall be Type "VB"
shown on the architectural drawings shall be manufactured as an integral
part of the operable partition panels, and shall be Natural Cork covered
with vinyl. All edges shall be trimmed with matching molding, and no
exposed fasteners.
Optional flush-mounted chalk trays shall be installed
where indicated on the Architectural drawings.
"CAUTION": Surface applied writing surfaces will not be
accepted.
